Arlington Heights residents can take an active role in helping to keep their community safe, by participating in the "Adopt-A-Fire Hydrant." This is a strictly voluntary program and involves no liabilities or actual responsibilities beyond the suggestions below.
Volunteers interested in assisting the Fire Department can simply adopt a fire hydrant and perform the following tasks to help keep it clear in the event of an emergency:
- Maintain a 3-foot radius around the fire hydrant that is clear from snow and shrubbery.
- Watch for evidence of fire hydrant vandalism or removal of caps.
- Call Public Works at 847-368-5800 if you notice the hydrant leaking or observe other damage.
An appreciation certificate will be issued to you and/or your group upon adopting a fire hydrant. First, find a hydrant that is located close to where you live. Once you have located the hydrant, print and complete the "Adopt A Hydrant" form and submit it to the Fire Department Office, or submit the online form.
